Bill Jefferson...am I the only African American who thought he should go?

OK, so I was wondering today if I was the only African American in New Orleans who thought Bill Jefferson should NOT have been re-elected to Congress this weekend? Everyone I spoke to about this issue who were in favor of Jefferson's re-election kept saying that the man is "innocent until proven guilty." To that I say: even IMPLIED guilt is enough for me to dig deeper as I consider my choice for political representation. Is it just me or did we NOT learn that Mr. Jefferson had over 90K of MARKED bills in his freezer - the result of an investigation by the feds? Dunno, but if it looks like a duck and it quacks like a duck, pull out the orange sauce! This whole thing begs the question: Are African Americans more tolerant of corruption than the rest of the world? Even if the corruption is just suspected, are we so short-sighted that we can't see how the appearance of such will hurt us in the long run? I like Mr. Jefferson as much as the next guy...even lived next to him a few years ago...but I honestly felt like his time had come and the honorable thing to do would have been for him to step down and get his affairs in order. Had he done that in the primary, we'd have the representation that we have seemingly lost. That's just me...
